SnapLarder is a reminder tool. It is not a food safety product and cannot tell you whether food is safe to eat.
Dates shown in the app come from two sources:
- Estimated dates are typical shelf-life figures for a kind of food. They are general guidance only. They do not account for how the food was stored, transported or handled, or how fresh it was when you bought it. Changes the app makes when you open or freeze something are estimates too.
- Label dates are read from packaging using text recognition. This can misread, and packaging can be damaged, faded or printed in ways that cannot be read reliably.
Either type of date may be wrong.
Product details shown for scanned items, including ingredients, allergens and nutrition, come from Open Food Facts, a database built by volunteers. They can be incomplete, out of date or for a different version of the product. Always read the label, especially if you have an allergy.
Always use your own judgement. Check the packaging, and look, smell and inspect food before eating it. If in doubt, throw it out.
Do not rely on SnapLarder for decisions about food safety, allergens, medication, infant feeding, or where you have a medical condition affected by diet. SnapLarder is not a substitute for official food safety guidance where you live: for example the Food Standards Agency in the UK (food.gov.uk), the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (fsai.ie), Food Standards Australia New Zealand (foodstandards.gov.au), the USDA and FDA in the United States (foodsafety.gov), or the Department of Health in South Africa (health.gov.za).
SnapLarder is provided "as is" without warranty. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for any illness, loss or damage arising from reliance on the app. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
